2000th Comment!!

After the 1000th Comment, I decided to acknowledge every thousandth comment instead. It takes up less space and makes it mucho more special that way!

And the winner is…

Things You Didn’t Know

I love random facts. Trivia is useless crap that floats in my brain, but it makes me happy. This week, Hubby is organizing a quiz night for several friends, so I thought I would help him out, as well as provide y’all with even more stuff for your memory holes.

Cats have over one hundred vocal sounds, while dogs only have about ten. This is probably why dogs are Man’s best friends.

The white part of your nail is called the lunula.

Porcupines can float in water. They also like to eat teeth and bone. Just FYI for CSI.

The dot over the letter “i” is called a tittle.

Charlie Brown’s dad was a barber. This explains a lot.

Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards.

Grapes explode when you microwave them. Trust Son on this.

A “twit” is a pregnant goldfish, among other things.

The plastic things around the ends of shoelaces are called aglets.

There are no coins used in Vietnamese currency.

A group of unicorns is called a blessing.

Scissors were invented by Leonardo Da Vinci. But the man couldn’t be bothered to finish St. Jerome in the Wilderness

The island of Guam has no sand, only ground coral.

The infinity sign (as in infinite numbers, not the Nissan luxury vehicle) is called a lemniscate.

Aren’t you glad you read my blog today?? πŸ˜‰

I like social media. It helps me to keep up with family. Sometimes, I’m blindsided by some family crisis that someone forgot to tell me. So it’s handy. I don’t play games or answer questions or do causes. My causes and charities are my own. But overall, it can be fun, especially when others talk about their days, and you find that your life is pretty normal after all.

Lately, some changes have prompted friends to try other social media sites, and the birdy one comes up as being the most endorsed.

It’s a challenge to limit what you say to no more than 140 characters. But once you overcome that, it seems pretty easy to be brief. But, I don’t think it’s for me. A friend of mine asked when I was going to get an account. I replied that brevity was the soul of wit….

….and I have no soul… πŸ˜‰

Kuhula is the New Southwest Airlines

Kulula is an African airline with its head office located in Johannesburg. Kulula Airlines attendants make an effort to make the in-flight safety lecture and announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

Courtesy of Casey Research

1. On a flight with a very “senior” flight attendant crew, the pilot said, “Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve reached cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights. This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your flight attendants.”

2. On landing, a stewardess said, “Please be sure to take all of your belongings. If you’re going to leave anything, please make sure it’s something we’d like to have.”

3. “There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane.”

4. As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Durban Airport , a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: “Whoa, big fella. Whoa!”

5. After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in the Karoo, a flight attendant announced, “Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted.”

She is a marvelous blogette who writes about food, and occasionally beer and her schizoid cats. And with entries like polygamy in Texas, she also has a great wit πŸ˜‰
