Pillow Talk

This morning I was watching the news, when the anchor made mention of a “language gene“.

Oooooh…. SCIENCE!! I knew about the discovery (about ten years old now), but apparently there was a new twist to it. My ears perked up to listen, and I was not disappointed.

According to scientists, women speak “about 20,000 words a day – some 13,000 more than the average man.” Yes, yes… I asked the same question:

IS THAT ALL??

woman blahbing

According to science studies, women have more of the Foxp2 protein than men do. That’s the “language protein”. Apparently, the more you have, the more you gab. I don’t have much of it, but according to Hubby, Little One makes up more than my lack. So ladies, take it easy on your guy. He has a tough time keeping up with everything we say, not because he doesn’t care, but because there’s so much of it!!

So far, no studies have found men to have a “listening gene” as yet. And I am willing to bet that even if such a gene existed, the scientific community would never, ever admit it 😉

Sunday Sithy

I’m going shopping today, so here’s a Sithy for y’all.

darth card

Amazingly, I get it, if only because of the many gaming cards that have come through this house.

Hope y’all have a great Sunday!! 😀

Sleeeeeeeeeeep……….

I don’t get it.

Last night I was in bed by 10 PM. I didn’t read at all, just laid my head on my rather ancient pillow, and the next thing I know my alarm is going off and I really, really didn’t want to move. And when I say that, I mean I didn’t even want to turn off the alarm, because that would have meant actually MOVING my arm.

broken clock

Anyone else felt like that? What did you do to counter the grogginess?

And were law enforcement involved?? 😀

Flighty

This morning found me in a grey world. Overcast and cooler outside, and slight drizzles, the kind that are light enough to stand in, but hell to drive in. And as usual, the people who freak out over condensed moisture were out and about making a nuisance for everyone. One lady had her hazards on and was driving ten miles under the speed limit. How do I know it was the drizzle and not car trouble that made her slow and cautious? Because she was hunched over the steering wheel, peering through the windshield like it was covered in mud.

We have a few of them around here. Rain is that unusual.

Anyway, as I was waiting at the stop light, I looked up, and saw the migratory grackles, all in rows.

birds on wires

I had to laugh, thinking of a much younger Eldest the first time she noticed them here in winter:

Eldest: Daddy, why are there still so many birds around? Don’t they fly south for the winter?

Hubby: Honey, they did. THIS is the south they fly to!

Eldest: Why not go to Mexico? It’s way warmer.

Me: Because there they are part of the food chain, honey.

Eldest: 😯

No, it’s true. I’ve partaken of pigeon and grackle stew before on my many visits there. Good stuff, too! No sense in being delicate about the Circle of Lifeâ„¢, you know. But really, I just wanted to freak her out.

I’m a mom. It’s my job 😉

Unwinding

Not that anyone noticed, but I decided to take a break from the internets this past weekend. There were UIL meets, yet another military ball, and I really just didn’t have the energy to even power up the laptop.

So, what did I do with my weekend?

nothing

Sometimes I just don’t have anything to say. Or type. I know y’all find that extremely hard to believe. It’s very hard to write about nothing, you know. I feel like I’m trapped in Brave New World sometimes, except without the Somaâ„¢.

Wait…. my PJs are from Somaâ„¢. Well, so much for that comparison.

And yes, I did unwind in my Somaâ„¢ PJs.

Anyway, I hope to be back to my blathering self in the next few days. Hope y’all get back into reading it 😉

Never Listen to Werewolves While Eating Cake

I will never learn. Probably because that would mean giving up cake and that’s just never going to happen.

Last night after dinner, Hubby and I had some of his birthday cake: white chocolate with raspberry filling. To. Die. For. Apparently, I didn’t have nearly enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, because after he went to bed, I had another slice, while listening to Warren Zevon. And the dream which resulted from that smash-up was epic!

I was in Pittsburgh, no idea why, but for some reason I was at a Trader Vic’s discussing the merits of Rolling Rockâ„¢, and how Yuenglingâ„¢ wasn’t as good as Shinerâ„¢. And I was sitting at the table with none other than my friend Soylent Green, (NSFW!!!!) who was dressed as a dentist for some odd reason, and he was yelling at me about how uncouth I was for liking my Southern libation, instead of the Northern ones, to which I told him that he needed to get his Novocaineâ„¢ out of his…. derriére and expand his horizons, and as the yelling match grew out of proportions Trader Vic came over to let us know that the werewolves were getting annoyed and Soylent takes his glass and yells at them to order Domino’s Pizzaâ„¢. Then the werewolves came over and Trader Vic said that the leader would just tear our lungs out, and I said fine, but they had to settle the argument about Shiner versus Yuengling before they even took a bite.

And then I woke up.

*shakes fist at REM sleep*

Just once I wish I could finish a dream that awesome 😀

Weekend Follies

Today is Hubby’s birthday, and we are still in the planning stages of doing…. something. Hopefully, we will have plans by the time I’m done writing this short post.

I doubt it, but it can happen.

We did surprise him with breakfast in bed, and he received Gift Number One: an assortment of his favorite teas. Sadly, Gift Number Two is still in transit.

*shakes fist at the Brown Truck of Happinessâ„¢*

But no matter. That just means he will get to celebrate his birthday all over again!

trek birthday lol

Oh, looks like we DO have plans now. I think there is a trip to the local tourist trap and the wildlife park. SQUEEE!!!!

I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend!! 😀

Why Do I Bother Making Plans??

I found out this week that there was going to be a huge, and I mean HUGE antique shindig today in a town not to far from me. Aside from my junking for crafting dealio, I have also been on a mission to find the perfect chair for my leather-inlaid antique desk. I’ve had this desk since 1996, acquired at a neighbor’s estate sale. The reason the price was so low was due to it missing a chair. Anyway, I have been looking for a matching chair forever, and thought YAY! This is the weekend to go look!

Only to have my plans shrivel up and die like grapes in the Texas sun.

Me: Honey, can we go to the antiques show? PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE???

Hubby: Sure, when?

Me: This Saturday. We can maybe finally get a chair for the des—

Hubby: Sorry, honey, but I have a conference I can’t skip.

Me: Awwww…. well, at least it will be a quiet weekend.

Hubby: Oh, and BIL is staying with us this weekend, too.

Me: Ahhh…well, the kids will stay busy.

Hubby: Oh, and we have an extra kid, since Flower Girl is going to the conference and she couldn’t get a babysitter.

Me: At least she’s a fun kid. How long will it be for?

Hubby: All day.

Me: *mentally counts remaining wine inventory* *sobs*

And I just remembered the play-offs.

And kids have a Skyrim marathon today.

I think I will hide in my room today 🙂

Some Stuff to Ponder

Just what y’all need: a random post about nothing.

Still, there comes a time, usually every three weeks or so, when I start wondering about certain unanswered questions.

1) Why did they never tell us how to get to Sesame Street??

2) I read, and re-read, but I can’t find where the nursery rhyme says Humpty Dumpty was an egg. Can you?

3) Why does MTV still claim to play music?

4) No matter how much we eat, how is it that we always have room for dessert?

Obviously, I didn’t have enough coffee. But I do have a Sithy.

empire strikes back to the future

Heh, and with that, I’m off to go get more coffee.

Have a good one!! 😀
