Words Fail Me

Sometimes friends know me too well. There was that time when I was trying out for a school play and my friend said I would be no good as the main character, but the witch was a sure fit for me because I could cackle. Things like that. But there are times when they know me so well, that words just fail me.

My friend Teresa is amazing. This is why:

darth pincushion

That, my friends, is a Darth Kitty Pincushion!!!!!

Complete with pipe cleaner lightsaber!!!!

When I opened the box last night, and saw what it was, I started to laugh, and cackle, and wheeze, and hurt a lot. And it was completely worth it!! Truly I have wonderful friends.

The only quandary is, do I use it as a pincushion, taking a risk on voodoo, or do I let it reign supreme over my Sithy work area?

Decisions, decisions 😉

Perspectives

First, I do apologize for the briefness of my last post. When you think about it, there really isn’t much more to add to it, except to give thanks to God for watching out for everyone.

Some things with which I had to come to terms:

Young Frankenstein is Mel Brook’s finest work. Honestly, it’s a toss-up with Blazing Saddles, but the ending of Blazing Saddles was weak.

Yellow is definitely not my color.

It’s smart to put those treating you for trauma at ease. It isn’t smart to make them laugh while they are trying to stick you with an I.V.

I found the perfect chandelier for moi. And it’s just this side of redneck.

It’s perfect, and I want it, and if I learned anything this past weekend, it’s that Life is too short to wait for the right time for anything, or to waste time pretending to be something you’re not. Which is why this is just this side of redneck!

But the best thing to come out of this? The huge blessing that is the support and caring I received from my family, and from my friends, here and in cyberspace. Y’all are wonderful and I ♥ you all 🙂

Saturday Sithy

I will be blogging light due to being in a vehicle accident last night.

IT WAS NOT MY FAULT!!

Someone ran a red and broadsided me, causing me to roll over. But I’m fine and have painkillers and VALIUMâ„¢. WINNING!!

So, here’s a Sithy, courtesy of my friend, PepeLp.

Considering Star Wars Saga is a rip-off of Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress, I thought it was appropriate!

Have a great Saturday!! 😀

Life Moves Pretty Fast

What a day, so far.

Coming back from dropping off the kids, I witnessed a car accident and boy howdy, it was loud. Came home to wake Eldest up to take her to the dentist, and after dropping her off, saw a herd of cervines (deer, in case you wanted a new word of the day) running across the highway, bringing traffic to a screeching halt. Went to get gas, only to find that the gal in front of me in line was short to pay, so I paid the remainder, earning brownie points from the cashier. Came home to walk the dogs, who had to be restrained when they spotted a tiny rabbit running across the median. Went back to pick up Eldest, and take her to get her learner’s permit with the required 1,003 proofs of identification and a unit of blood.

Life stopped moving for about an hour at this point.

Once that was done, took her to lunch, came home to gather her school stuff, dropped her off, and went in search of a thrift store, where I scored a Blue Ball jar (Shut. Up.), old hardback, and nine paperbacks for ten bucks. Go outside to find a freakin’ hawk on my vehicle, calmly return inside until hawk was done stalking the poor rat that didn’t have a rat’s chance.

I must admit, it was rather awesome to see the hawk take off, dive and grasp the rat in its talons. I hope PETA is offended right now.

Once again, go to my vehicle, and begin the drive home, enjoying the fighter jets landing at the base. Come home, and squeeee about the jar again, and now it’s 1:40 PM, and time for me to get busy.

Life does move pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. 😉

When You’re Smilin’

I smile as often as I can. Not only does it make me feel better, it also counteracts the frown lines that were fostered due to children. It also makes you look younger. Seriously, try it all day, and see!

Anyway, smiling can also be a not-so-good thing. I remember when I was working for Disneyâ„¢, I used to walk around and ask the “guests” as customers are called, if they were finding everything they needed, if they needed help, or just pleasant chit-chat to cheer them up. One woman just did NOT like it. She took a complaint to the district manager and straight out accused me of stalking her and making her feel like a criminal. Thankfully, the manager knew me well enough to know that was complete road apples on the roadway, and told the woman that I was “in character” and that was part of my job. I always did wonder why the woman felt like I was treating her like a criminal. Usually, saying, “Hope you are finding everything you need, but in case you have a question, let me know!” doesn’t translate to “Are you shoplifting??”

Sunday was a day like that one. I was standing in line to check out of The Lego Storeâ„¢, when the lady behind me asked what was wrong.

Me: Excuse me?

Lady: Are you feeling alright?

Me: Sure am, why?

Lady: Well, you’re smiling….

Me: Well, smiling is a good thing (smiling wider).

Lady: I thought someone was in trouble.

Me: HA! Wait… you thought I was plotting something?

Lady: Well, that’s how *I* look when I’m thinking of getting back at someone.

Me: ……Uh….no…. Not plotting anything.

I felt pretty bad for that lady. Seemed to me she never smiled for the sake of it, and attributed the act to nefarious doings. Don’t get me wrong. I do smile when I think of getting even with someone who has wronged me or mine. But that’s very rare. Smiling is a very powerful act. It can even break the ice!

But it can also make them wonder what you’re up to 😉

Whew…I’m Back!

Wow, what a weekend. I had three– count them: THREE!!– Thanksgiving dinners. And yet, I still don’t think you could ever have too much roasted turkey. Sadly, there are no leftovers, since we travelled and couldn’t bring food back with us. Which means I will be making a roast in the near future.

This week will be a hectic one, as usual. But for different reasons. No, I will NOT be decorating yet. I wait until December 1st to do that. But I do have to get the crafting done before the cold sets in, and bring down the ornaments and lights and tree, and start packing up gifts to send off. Because if I don’t do that this week, it may be 2013 before anyone gets anything.

March of 2013.

Provided the Mayans were mistaken.

And ZOMG!!!! IT’S CYBER MONDAY!!!

I shall return in two hours a while maybe this afternoon later to comment.

If online shopping were a sport, I would have a medal and be on the cover of the Wheaties™ box 😉

Smart Kids Mean Headaches

I am a traditional gal. I am an Aggie, which doubles down on the whole traditions thing. But at Casa de Aggie, it isn’t just good enough to have traditions. One must also observe historical accuracy while celebrating a tradition.

Little One: Are we having turkey for Thanksgiving this year?

Me: Is this a trick question?

Little One: Well, the original Thanksgiving didn’t have a turkey dinner.

Me: True…. Are you saying that you would prefer fish and lobster and squash and corn and beans to the turkey dinner??

Little One: No, just the lobster.

Me: Fat chance, kiddo.

Little One: It was worth a shot.

It never fails to amaze me how wily they can be. It’s a full time job just to keep ahead in the game 😉

Struck by Lighting

Sorry for my absence yesterday. I was busy playing chauffeur and had to go downtown to purchase myriad random stuff for the kidlets. And lack of sleep was sure not helping to motivate me.

Anyway, last week my friend Flower Girl and I went to a friend’s open house. I have to tell you, Flower Girl is obsessed with light fixtures. She went to Ikea waaaaaaaaaaay north of here JUST to get a light fixture for her bedroom.

I would be afraid to sneeze with that giant dandelion dangling over my head.

At the open house she fell in love with the drum-shaped fixture in the foyer. Unlike my foyer, my friend’s ceiling was at normal height, so the small fixture was just right for the space. Which then got me to thinking about my two-storey ceiling area in the foyer. It has a flush mount fixture the size of a salad plate, and with the lumens power of maybe two candles in a storm.

Seriously, it provides enough light to identify shapes. On the ceiling…

So now I have the lighting bug. And I thought that it would be easy to just find one and be done with it. But as usual, nothing that simple is ever easy. I had thought to get just a wrought iron looking pendant with maybe three bulbs. How hard could it be, right? OMG… There are different finishes, different metals, different lightbulbs, different cords, different everything! As the photos of fixtures swam across my eyes, I had a sudden thought: why not look for something more….Sithy?? And I found just the thing.

I can just see Hubby’s face when he walks through the door to that. After the “What the hell is that thing??” and before the “This is a joke, right?” he will just look at me and shake his head, wondering if it’s too early for a drink. Which is silly because he should know that a drink would be waiting for him on account of me getting a Sithy light fixture. I am that considerate. Besides, he would eventually realize it could be worse.

I could go out and acquire a giant metal chicken 😉

SQUEE*hic*EEEE!!!

This evening I am hosting a wine party, featuring Spanish wines.

You’ll notice I did not call it a wine tasting party.

Anyway, there will be wine, women and song. And by “song”, I mean the music channel will be on. Trust me when I say, no one wants to hear me sing when I am tipsy. Ok, maybe they do so they can record the fiasco and post it on YouTubeâ„¢. It wouldn’t be the first time. And because I am hostess, I get to use my wonderful gift, courtesy of my sister, Reno Queen:

My newest addition to my Lolitaâ„¢ collection!!

And the best news? I will not be in need of a designated driver 😉

Have a great Saturday!!

The Ides of Whatever

Middle of November, and guess what? I have barely made a dent in holiday plans.

It happens every year. I make plans, lists, calls, plans, more plans, and come November, all of the plans have been changed so often that no one knows where we are going, what we are doing, who we are visiting, and more importantly why we are screaming.

Ok, the family knows why I’m screaming. They manage to tune it out, though.

So, due to miscommunication, we will be staying home for Thanksgiving. That means shopping for turkey, trimmings, and the like.

Lucky for moi, I have all that stuff down now.

I just hope that the week goes by quickly. No telling how much Skyrim music I can take while basting the roast 😀
