And the honor goes to…..

NICOLE!!!

And not only is Nicole a wonderful writer, she is also an excellent cook. Or chef. I’m never sure what term to use. But her culinary stylings can also be found at Carpe Epulae. Go get some Nom education 🙂

Unanswered Questions

What a way to start off my Monday. As is my habit, I check Facebook in the morning for snippets of news and to see what everyone else is doing for the day. I’m curious, I admit it. Anyway, I look over to see that I have been “poked” by several friends. And that got me to thinking…

What is the purpose of the Facebook “poke”?

Seriously??

Really, what is the point of it? It has no purpose, other than to let someone else know that you thought highly enough of them to virtually stick your finger out and plunge it against their virtual chest. If someone were to actually do that to me in reality, I would be forced to take their finger and break it.

Which leads to another question: why isn’t there a “break finger” option to “poking” on Facebook?? 😉

MITCHELL!!

And thankfully, he didn’t put a link to a shopping site when he commented. Though he did mention Shang Tea, which, coincidentally, is where my friend Nicole got the wonderful white tea that Hubby prefers, and by “prefer” I mean “will kill for.”

I guess I’m going Yorling again….sigh…..

Java the Hutt

I used to be a big tea drinker. I mean BIG. It was my beverage of choice every morning. I loved to watch it steep, the liquid turn into an amber nectar that would lift my spirits and recharge and soothe me at the same time.

And then I got pregnant with Eldest. And tea tasted like warm strychnine laced with rat poison. This is NOT an exaggeration. True, I have never tasted either, but from the descriptions I have read in murder mysteries, it came close. I was bereft. I could no longer partake of any kind of tea, not even southern sweet tea. No matter how much sugar I added, and believe me, I added a LOT of sugar, the taste was still acrid. Nothing helped. This went on for about a year and a half, until we returned to the mainland from being stationed in Hawaii. And then I went to my inlaws one Saturday morning, and my MIL fixed me a cup of coffee out of habit. Not wanting to be rude, I decided to drink it, after adding the requisite amounts of half and half and sugar.

ZOMG!!! I could drink it! And I have been a convert ever since.

I can NOT function without a cup in the morning, and usually make sure to drink at least two cups, just to be on the safe side. And though I can now drink the southern sweet iced tea and can drink some other hot teas, I still prefer coffee. I am not a coffee snob by any stretch, but do have my favorites. And no, Starbucks isn’t one of them. I’m sure some of you will be shocked about that. But hey, it’s my blog and I brew what I want to 😉

Carly Simon Speaks to Me

No, not really speaking to me. More like her anthem, You’re So Vain, keeps circling about in my head. Why? Because I have a hair appointment to have my tresses tamed and trimmed.

No, I am NOT cutting it short!!

JUST a trim of maybe an inch to an inch-and-a-half. And maybe I will capitulate to my vanity, and get a gloss treatment to make my hair look like it came from a Pantene commercial.

My hair, in about 20 years. Or in about three weeks if the kids keep driving me nuts.

I’ll try to post before and after pics of the hair. Hopefully, it won’t be too big of a change for someone 😉

I can hear Hubby whimpering all the way over here already…. 😉

UPDATE!!

Ok, here you go:

SHINY!!!!

Ok, people??? 😀

Keeping Busy

Life always intrudes, doesn’t it?? It never fails…. you go to the craft store, you find something new to try, and as soon as you come home you put it in your craft area, ready to start on it, only to find you need just one more thing, so you wait on in until you get it, then you forget where you put something else you need, so you keep putting off the project until you can’t remember what you were going to make.

That happens a lot to me. And no, it’s not senility.

Anyway, I finally found the item I needed: a miniature canvas. Those are a bit hard to come by, since most artists prefer to paint on a full-sized canvas, I imagine. And why would I need a miniature canvas? To make something similar to this:

Mine won’t need so many canvases, and will be smaller in size. I hope to have it finished by this evening, because I just know something is going to come up. Again…

I figure I may finish this project in time for school to begin 😉

To a Person Who Changed My Life

I have the unique ability to imprint habits from others. Some would say that is the hallmark of a weak personality. I never claimed to have a strong one, but in my defense, all of my “imprinting” has been of good habits for the most part. The chocolate habit I got from my sister-in-law, and some would argue it’s not such a great habit.

I disagree wholeheartedly.

So many people have changed my life. But one person stands out above the others:

Dear June,

You epitomized what motherhood and feminism meant to a whole generation of women, at least until the hippie flower children found LSD. You had class, style, and grace, and I wanted to be just like you when I grew up. Really! I even begged my mother for a cheap string of dimestore pearls so I could pretend to be you while I washed the dishes.

I learned how to be a mom from my mother, but I learned to be a domestic goddess from you.

Indulgences

Ah, yes…. There are times when you are clipping coupons, and cutting unnecessary expenses, and even relying on generic brands to make ends meet. But there is always one thing….one tiny indulgence that you must keep, isn’t there??

I’m not sure if this is my antidote, or my Kryptonite. Either way, it’s a small way to feel special. Better than going totally overboard with $400 shoes or $600 dresses, right??

Congratulations on this rather obscure and dubious award 😉

Sithy Frippery

Well, today’s letter was to someone to whom I want or should give a second chance. Seeing as I give everyone and everything a second chance (yes, even menudo, both the band and the stew), I decided to do something more frivolous here.

It’s my blog and I post what I like 😀

A friend of mine happens to be addicted to shoes. And by “addicted”, I mean ADDICTED!! There is not a day that goes by without her checking out Jimmy Choo and Louboutin, and whatever shoe designer she comes across. And it had me thinking…. I quite like shoes, too. Not to the extent of paying $400 for a pair, you understand. But I do like a nice pair of heels!

And if you think I just get them for looks, think again. That heel can do some serious damage 😉
