Twitterings

I like social media. It helps me to keep up with family. Sometimes, I’m blindsided by some family crisis that someone forgot to tell me. So it’s handy. I don’t play games or answer questions or do causes. My causes and charities are my own. But overall, it can be fun, especially when others talk about their days, and you find that your life is pretty normal after all.

Lately, some changes have prompted friends to try other social media sites, and the birdy one comes up as being the most endorsed.

It’s a challenge to limit what you say to no more than 140 characters. But once you overcome that, it seems pretty easy to be brief. But, I don’t think it’s for me. A friend of mine asked when I was going to get an account. I replied that brevity was the soul of wit….

….and I have no soul… 😉

It’s the Little Things

Last night I had to make an emergency run to the grocery store because I had just run out of milk. I don’t know what it is with the kids, but lately they have been drinking milk like it’s going out of style. I had also run out of creamer for my coffee this morning, but since I use milk when I’m out, I hadn’t thought to get more. Well, that was shot, so of course I had to go to the store for sure! Anyway, after fighting with the fridge rack to let go of the last bottle of non-fat hazelnut (I give up fats, not sugars. I’m not stupid), I start walking to the front of the store to pay for my foodstuffs when I saw this:

I do ♥ me some Shiner, and I do enjoy their seasonals. Well, it is October, so I figure this is a sign. Beer is food, right? I thought so. So, I grab a six pack, and finally come to the register to check out, and surprisingly, the gentleman asks to see my ID. Well, ok… I show him my ID, and he proceeds to ring up the rest of the groceries. And then I see this:

Did you read that?? “Appearing under the age of 40″!!!! He carded me because I LOOK YOUNGER THAN 40!!!!

WINNING!!!!

Everything Old is New Again

Yesterday, I spent my day at Aquarena Springs. For once the weather co-operated and behaved itself as we toured the Texas State University ecological facility.

For those who aren’t familiar with it, Aquarena Springs is the site of Texas’ first amusement park. It is probably the most important archaeological, anthropological and ecological site in the state of Texas. Evidence of human settling has been found dating back thousands of years. In the 19th century, people came from all over the world to enjoy the springs for its therapeutic properties. Becoming popular in the early 20th century, the owner opened a hotel at the springs in 1928, which hosted many famous people, including Jay Gould, and most famously, Johnny Weismuller.

The Aquarena Hotel

It even hosted Robert E. Lee at the resort while he was stationed at Fort Mason. The hotel is now the Texas Rivers Center.

Saturday Sithy

I have a school excursion to attend for Little One today. We are traipsing all over Aquarena Springs! I shall have quips, quotes, and pics to share on the morrow, but until then, enjoy a bit of Sithy!

That takes talent! I particularly like how the artist made Yoda look like Vader’s pet 😉

Darth Steampunk

If I had the stuff, I would totally make this.

The only thing missing is a distressed leather cape.

Can you imagine what a Steampunk Darth Maul would look like?? 😀

Arrrgh!!!

Aye, it’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, me mateys!! Time for a bit of the grog, and shiver your timbers with a song!!

As it is a Monday, try not to get yerself in trouble and avoid walking the gangplank!!

Ahoy, me harties, yo ho!!!

1000th Comment!!

And the honor goes to….

Not Mitchell, but a close facsimile 🙂

Congratulations, Mitchell!! You just won Artwork by Aggieâ„¢ for being Numero 1000!!!

Tactical Style

Laura over at Fetch My Flying Monkeys gave an account yesterday of her friend Richelle’s run-in with a racist @$$#*!&. We in the blogosphere were rightly incensed, appalled, and wishing that we lived closer to both Laura and Richelle so that we too could have the opportunity to unleash major fury on that @$$#*!&. Because y’all know we would have hunted him down like the vermin he is and wreaked havoc upon his sorry carcass until not even the vultures would have recognized it for carrion.

Whew….got a little woozy there for a minute.

Anyway, after expressing everything we would do to that low-life our anger, I went back to read the rest of the comments. I am so proud to be associated with such bloodthirsty wonderful people. But the last comment I read was from Mrs. Who, who had the awesomest link ever:

A TACTICAL CORSET!!!!! Two holsters, and webbing for attachment of modular pouches & tools for ammo. Oh, and if you don’t like black, they have custom fabric choices, including Steampunk prints with lace, and fashionable silks.

If that doesn’t scream my name, y’all are deaf. I get one of these, and Laura Croft will have nothing on me!!

Blogosphere News

As y’all know, I’m a relative newbie to the intertubewebnets. True, I have blogged for a while at H&B, but I have only had my own blog for a few months. It’s a work in progress. Or regress. I’m still not sure. Maybe it’s more stagnant than anything. Whatever the case may be, I’m here to have fun, and y’all are here to make fun of my mishaps 😀

Anyway, I wanted to take the time to introduce a new blog on the scene. Our friend QueenBee has decided to come to the Blog Side™!! Her blog is full of the wisdom that comes with her eventual ruling of the world. If only her rules would be followed, the world would be a better place, indeed.

Not her crown, but she deserves it!!

So, let us all be faithful minions, and go give her some windbaggery love!!

Halloweenin’

I know, it’s early yet. But my kids love Halloween, and every year they try to out-do the costumes from the previous holiday. Last year, Eldest went as some vampirical creature, Little One was a dark fairy, and Son stuck to the classics: he went as a ghost. The fun part is making the costumes from what you already have around the house. Togas are very easy and look good. Add some gaudy jewelry courtesy of my armoire, and you are a Greek or Roman goddess. Or paint a scruffy beard, and you go Animal House!!

This year I am at a quandary for a costume. Yes, Momma dresses up, too. And so does Daddy, but not this year, unfortunately. I thought it would be fun to go as Romans this year, but the kids nixed that idea. The thought of all of us dressing to match was repulsive in the extreme, I suppose. So, I was ready to go back to the drawing board when Teresa from Koch’s Tour sent me a link to The Pyramid Collection:

Steampunk all the way!! I have made plenty of Steampunk jewelry, and have several vintage items that with some tweaking can be made to look very Victorian. Eldest will no doubt want to borrow this for her wardrobe. And she can.

But not the corset that goes with it 😉
