Or so the calendar claims.
I think the calendar is yanking my chain, though. I’m still wearing sweaters and long sleeves and the heater kicks in every night. Usually by mid-March we have nice warm days, precursors to the scorchers we get for living five blocks from the Sun. My bluebonnets are coming up, the mountain laurel has bloomed, but I’m afraid the roses and the Barbados shrubs did not do well in the freezes we had. And you know what that means, right?
Every year I buy plants and flowers, and every year, they die. But for a few weeks they look SPECTACULAR in my yard, so at least I have that going for me.
So today I am off to go look for nice geraniums and roses and petunias. Hopefully they won’t cringe when they see me at the nursery. If they do, I shall spare them the agony of dying in my yard.
It’s the least I can do π

Do you go to Schulz Nursery?
If not, you should.
Then you could walk down the street to Penshorn’s market and get some excellent sausage.

Yep, still there. I think we will go on Saturday to both places π

Oh, there was one flower that did great when I lived on the east side of Seguin, The Purple Coneflower. Loves the heat! And you’ll have echinacea leaves available for home made herbal tea. π

Yeah….I don’t care for the coneflower, though. But if it will survive in the front yard, I may get some. Just so SOMETHING can live.

Some people can make flowers bloom forever, even though they’re the Charles Manson of gardeners.
I’m guessing you don’t have that type of charisma, or a beard.

Nope, neither. π

Plants usually come to my house to commit suicide. That being said, however, my roses have done very well. They did get bit hard by the last two freezes, but they look like they’re recovering. The cannas are starting to send up green shoots, and the mint is also starting to show. If there are no more freezes this season, it won’t be long before it’s time to plant the rose moss, the salvias, and the verbenas.

I hear ya. It’s a miracle my lawn is green π

I’m waiting to see if my blueberry bush will come back this year. Last summer, mrsfixit decided it no longer needed the protective fencing around it. Almost immediately, the damned dog decided to start chewing the branches off of it. If it doesn’t come back this year, I might have to plant a certain golden retriever in it’s place. π

That’s not how you get puppies, you know π

He had his sparkplugs yanked, as part of the sales contract, so none coming from him anyways. π

I never takes the calendar’s word for it. It ain’t Spring ’til the snow and ice melt. π

This is the first year I am doubtful of the calendar, as well. Still too cool out to do much here, so I can imagine up north is way worse π

Cringe? The nursery probably rejoices! Repeat business! lol
March 20th, 2014 at 8:11 AM
Oh, no doubt they do! The plants are the ones doing the cringing π

The Badger looks out at the gently falling snow, and feels an appropriate level of sorrow for Aggie Sith.

The Badger is nuts and needs to get somewhere tropical to become sane again π
