Last night I had the strangest dream. No, I didn’t sail a boat to China. I was dreaming of being in a flower field. Not wildflowers with insects and weeds and all of Nature screaming to get lucky. It was just flowers, no stems or leaves or grass at all. Just a field full of flower heads as far as I could….. I don’t know if “see” is the right word here. Detect? Sense? Whatever. It was just a bunch of flowers of every color, size, scent, and texture imaginable. Honestly, it felt like I was in a Monet painting, only not such a big mess, or so pastel-ly.
Anyway, that got me to thinking about flowers I never could get around to appreciating. There are some like the Rafflesia above, that would turn your stomach or are just plain ugly. But I am talking about the normal, everyday commercially available flowers. I suppose my dislikes are based more on mental blocks than anything else, but nevertheless I have them.
#5– Cannas
Sorry, to me they just look like the stem threw up the flower.
#4– Coreopsis Cone Flower
The petals look so wilted, they make me sad.
#3– Sunflower
Every time I see one, I am reminded of that creepy baby in Teletubbiesβ’.
#2– Passion Flower
Honestly, it looks to me like threads unravelling and makes me itch to sew it back together.
#1– Dahlia
As pretty and sunburst-like and colorful, I just can’t get past the old Language of Flowers my grandmother taught me when I was five. It was considered the Death Flower. BIG block there for me.
So there you have my Thursday list. File it away for future reference π
UPDATE!!!
Hubby pointed out it isn’t Coreopsis but the Cone Flower that I think is sad. “I am good for something”, he said. I agreed π

It’s a pretty flower, but so sad looking π

I was wrong about the flower! Cone flowers make me sad π

You did not mention the Voodoo Lily. It smells like rotting meat.

I didn’t mention it because it’s not an everyday flower like the others. And I don’t think that anyone would disagree with it π

Blech. That Rafflesia looks… fleshy. Brr.
Not sure there are any standard flowers I dislike much. I get them so seldom I don’t complain when it happens. I am not as blessed as some when it comes to being appreciated florally. π

I am not blessed as some are, either. Worse, if I bring it up, then he says he can’t bring me any flowers because I complained, so I have to wait even longer to get any. It’s a vicious circle π

I’m personally not a big fan of roses.

I can take them or leave them, too π

“…I am reminded of that creepy baby in Teletubbiesβ’.”
Pretty much everything in Teletubbies is creepy. The whole show is like a commercial for a dystopian gated community.

Green flowers. Doesn’t matter what it is. Flowers should be a different color than the leaves and stems. My niece got married in Brazil, and she picked a green flower wedding bouquet. I thought with all the exotic tropical flowers to choose from, she flubbed it.

My mom had a green rose in her garden. She thought since it was an exotic color, she would love it. She ended up digging it up and giving it away. My MIL still has hers, and truthfully, I can never tell if it has flowers.

when xeroscaping and looking for that medium height flower, Echinacea (aka cone flower) is the way to go. (meaning they don’t get mad when you forget to water in the South Texas summer.)
But what do I know? π

I know, I know…. π
