Pinterhell

I swear to all that is holy, I had to have been a magpie in another life.

A lot of my friends have Pinterest accounts. I don’t. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t access it. Anyone can, and it is made easier by the addition of sections, such as “home decor”, “foods”, “posters”, etc. A friend of mine posted a really cute idea for a table centerpiece, which necessitated I click on it, which then took me to a board called “Miscellaneous crafts & DIY for the home“.

Three hours later, I awoke from my daze. Two hours after that, I returned from the local craft and hobby store after getting supplies for numerous projects: felt flowers, “mercury” glass, paper flowers, tissue canvas project, lamp re-do, etc. The best part: I already have so much crafting crap, I didn’t need to buy a lot!

I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. Every single time I have good intentions on cleaning up my mess upstairs, something like this happens and all my plans go out the window, which is where Hubby wants to throw most of the mess, anyway. Seriously, y’all remember this, right?

From the mess upstairs that I still have to clean up before Nomstress arrives. Well, guess what? After Pinterest, it miraculously turned into this:

This Pinterest does not bode well for me, I can tell. On the other hand, it does inspire me to create new things with stuff on hand, and gives me ideas for gift-giving. This may be the cheapest least expensive Christmas season ever!!

I just hope no one in my family catches on 😉

Six Songs of Me

Sing a song of sixpence, this ain’t. I’m just going to go ahead and blame Nicole for it, though she found it at Dustbury, who got it from Bayou Renaissance Man, who got it…. Well, you get the idea. But I figure it’s a short meme, and I have been lacking in blog fodder, and it’s bound to cause someone to get an earworm, so WINNING!!

What was the first song you ever bought?

I saved lunch money until I could buy Heat of the Moment, by Asia.

Yep, I still own it. I will NEVER get rid of it.

What song always gets you dancing?

It’s a statistical tie: Shook Me All Night Long, by AC/DC, and Dance the Night Away, by Van Halen. And I think the latter edges out the former, but not by much.

What song takes you back to your childhood?

The Emperor Waltz, by Johann Strauss II. Not a song, but my dad used to play it a lot while I was growing up.

What is your perfect love song?

This one is tough. Our song, mine and Hubby’s, is not a traditional love song. And since I wish to keep that tidbit of trivia to myself, I shall go with my second choice: At Last, by Etta James.

What song would you want at your funeral?

Well, since The Imperial March would be too cliché, and Who Wants to Live Forever? by Queen would be too heartbreaking, I shall go with Llama, Llama, Duck.

Y’all didn’t think I would be serious at my own funeral, did you?

Time for an encore. One last song that makes you, YOU.

I thought about this one for a while. Fire Woman, by The Cult. Smoke, she is arising 😉

Sithy in the Rain

I couldn’t pass this up. Gene Kelly would have been 100 years old last week, and so, I give tribute to a great actor, dancer, and director.

Except for Xanadu. I’ll never understand why he consented to be in that atrocity.

Because of him, I always sing in the rain, dance on couches, and dream of a Brigadoon.

Have a great Wednesday!! 🙂

Sometimes Psychiatric Help is a Blessing

So I’m told. I have no idea why I wrote that title. Maybe I do need some psychiatric help. Or chocolate.

Anyway, I am going to be working on my little work area upstairs momentarily, in preparation for the coming of Nomstress, Nightflyer, and Rat Boy this weekend. I’m afraid when I start to do some art, and I use that term very loosely, I tend to make piles of my discards and my paints and my embellishments so that the original work area has shrunk by 75%. Working in a space the size of a sheet of notebook paper is not conducive to creativity, so the piles transfer down to the floor, leaving space open for yet more piles.

It’s like the Circle of Life™, only with scissors and glue instead of lions and zebras.

Don’t get me wrong. I can find EVERYTHING. Usually because it’s piled somewhere around the area, but I can still find it, so there’s a method. But I need to clean out a lot of old stuff and organize what I wish to keep. I should start with organization, though. If I start to clean out, then I will have piles and piles and more piles and my guests won’t be able to fit upstairs. My shrink, AKA the gal at the wine section, suggested I get those restaurant racks that are adjustable and shiny. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I already had shelves in the closet, and by that I meant I didn’t want her judging me. Her thing is wine, not hoarding intervention.

Anyway, I shall do my best to clear the area of the gingerly-placed piles of creativity. Hopefully it won’t take long.

And hopefully I won’t get distracted by starting yet another project… 😉

First Day of Freedo– I mean, School

Today heralds the first day of school. I was the only one excited. I can’t imagine why.

I went to get Eldest up, knowing that she wouldn’t have set her alarm for the amount of time she would need, and I was right. Her reasoning: she proved to herself this summer that she can get ready in 20 minutes.

(Insert maniacal cackle here)

Yes, I kicked her out of bed, and told her to get ready anyway. Son was out of bed by 6:30, and ready by 6:50. Eldest was STILL getting herself ready, and was out the door by…. 7:00 AM. So much for that 20 minutes.

Little One is on a different schedule, though. She still got up early, but then had a crisis: She had no PE clothes.

Me: We went shopping yesterday, and you said you didn’t need any!

LO: Well, Eldest was supposed to give me hers!

E: I did! But she can’t find the shirt.

LO: And the shorts are too big!

Me: And y’all didn’t figure this out until now??

E: Well…

LO: ….

Me: GAH!!!

But I resolved the crisis, as usual. It was a bittersweet moment when I saw her to the bus stop. But only for a moment, because peace and quiet had made a date with me back at the house, and I didn’t want to keep them waiting 😉

Forgotten Finds

I spent all morning yesterday cleaning my bathroom, and I am talking from the ceiling all the way down to the baseboards. It was a long morning. But the reward of having a very clean bath was worth it. Anyway, I also reorganized the drawers, which means Hubby won’t be able to find anything for a week, but it needed to be done. In the course of taking things out to organize it, I found a Lia Sophia™ box, and curious, I opened it to find this:

That’s right: a rhinestone choker. How completely unlike me to own such a thing…

You can stop laughing now. I MEAN IT!!

I could have put it on while cleaning the bathroom, but by the time I found it, I was almost done. I guess I will have to cajole Hubby into going on a date night so I can show it off.

After all, what is the use of owning pretty bling if you can’t go out and show it off? Right?? 😉

Saturday Sithy

You know, had I titled this “Sunday Sithy”, I would have been early for once.

And since we don’t have lightsabers (yet…), we substitute machetes and we are good to go 😉

Y’all have a great Saturday!!

Friday Open Thread, Since I Have No Time, Again…

It’s noon. And I have barely enough time to write anything!

It’s not like I don’t have a lot to say, or rather say a lot. Anyone who knows me knows I can talk forever. The problem I have is being coherent, apparently.

Ergo, the Open Thread!!

Most awesome uniform ever??

For me, it’s a toss up between this:

And this:

Could you imagine if U.S. Marines wore kilts?? I think I would die from the awesomeness.

And don’t get me started on firemen. Wowza!! 😉

Omigawd…

I completely forgot to post an entry today.

I had a very early doctor’s appointment again, and then had to stop to gas up the vehicle on base, and then went to check out if the Le Creuset™ pot was on sale, which it was, and I got, and then came home to a whiny dog who had not been let out, which I rescued, and then to fold the rest of the laundry and then to start a Tres Leches cake which takes FOREVER, and then swing by the grocery store for last minute stuff for dinner, which I am about to go start.

Also, Teresa sent me this link. I ♥ this!!

It is on my List of Things for Aggie’s Birthday®. That’s a list I am now going to leave conspicuously pasted all over the house, starting in September. It’s never too late to start 😉

Ooooh, Pretty AND Smashing

Today is one of those days. I have yet to finish any one single chore, and still have to take Little One to her Prep Day at her school. So what did I do with my lunchtime? I scoured the internet for some wicked mixology.

Hey, the washer and dryer only go so fast, ok??

Behold the Witches Brew!!!

Pretty, isn’t it? And perfect for Halloween. But we all know we do NOT need an excuse for pretty cocktails.

  • 1 oz. Bacardi Dragonberry Rum
  • 1 oz.  Blue Curaçao
  • 1 oz. Crème de Banana
  • Juice of one Lime
  • Black Sugar

Pour ingredients except sugar in shaker with ice, shaking well. Pour into a martini glass rimmed with the black sugar. I don’t care for flavored rum, but may try it with just Crystal or Añejo. I’ve partaken of dragonberry before. Let’s just say, I was not impressed.

Anyway, time to go fold clothes and finish telling Little One she looks better than fine for her school pictures. If any of you are brave enough to try this, let me know. I can’t imagine what the combination of blue and black will do for the tongue! 😀
