My friend XbradTC over at Bring the Heat, Bring the Stupid brought up a very important question the other day. One that, in the greater scheme of things, falls between “sliced bread” and The Clapper™:
Is it Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner?
Or is it Breakfast, Dinner, Supper?
Admit it: you have to think about it now 😉

Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Requires no thought whatsoever – unless you are slow 😉

Or, in Mope’s case, it’s “Beer (for breakfast), Beer (for lunch) & Beer (for dinner).”

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Unless you are part of the “upper crust” of society (something I have never had to worry about), in which case you substitute “Supper” for “Dinner”.

I’ve always associated the Breakfast, Dinner, Supper thing with the South, and rural communities.
City folk do lunch and dinner.

I know Aggie already knows the answer to this so I’ll stick my foot in my mouth and comment. Its a regional and rural vs City thing. Dinner is the largest meal of the day. When working on a Ranch/Farm Noon was often the largest meal of the day so it was called Dinner. In the city typically the largest meal of the day is in the evening so city folk call the last meal of the day dinner/supper. They are interchangeable terms.I grew up in the city on the left coast. We used Breakfast- Lunch-Dinner/Supper. My relatives in the mid-west (a term I detest) Use Breakfast-Dinner-Supper.

What is this thing breakfast you speak of? 😀 I rarely eat before noon, I call my noon meal ‘snack’, though I do feed the others in the house breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Depends on the century and decade you’re from.

Eighth, fifth decade…. 😉

Depends on
Who I’m talking with (my parents always have supper for their evening meal but usually have lunch around noon–kinda cuts against the model)
Where I am (different parts of the country and social subgroups have different traditions. When in Rome… )
What day of the week it is (Sunday “noonish” meal is usually dinner; sometimes brunch, never lunch)

If you are from the north of England and are at home then it is breakfast, dinner, tea then supper. Dinner is at noon (as in school dinner) and tea is at the work day end. Supper is a light snack before bed.
Only posh people have “lunch”, go out to “dinner” or “supper”.
Also posh people have “afternoon tea” which is little sandwiches and stuff. It is not the same as a workmans end of day teatime tea wich is usually bangers and mash or steak and kidney pie followed by treacle pudding or spotted dick and custard if you are lucky.
I hope that clears up the confusion.

Welcome, ISTE 🙂
I ♥ “trifle tea”. No one around here ever got into it, so I miss doing it.
